Abstract:

"Saving Ourselves" modules are designed for flexible use, both as a series and to stand alone. Each module takes approximately two hours to present. In series they should be used from two weeks to a month apart to allow time for the participants to work with the materials at home. The materials are best used with groups of 5-20 participants who are saving for an identified asset goal. When using "Saving Ourselves" as a "saving program" curriculum, facilitators should include an orientation session or opportunity that precedes the series for participants to open a dedicated savings account. Much of the material in "Saving Ourselves" is process oriented, that is, it is geared toward moving participants from where they are to where they want to be. Facilitators should add information that is appropriate to their geographic or target population.
